Adopted GSD
Sam
30.10.08

This lovely bright little boy only 12 months old needs to find what will become his third home through no fault of his own. He is Black & Tan with a short coat.
Sam has now found a new home and is settling in well.

It was October 2008 and I was living in the kennels, which was OK, the kennel maids were nice and everything but what I really wanted was a proper home like other dogs have. That was when Judy brought a family to visit me. I liked them straight away and decided that I ought to try and adopt them. They smelt right and they already had a small rat like creature who seemed to think he was a dog, he said his name was Jack Russell. I went for a walk with them – mum, dad, boy and Jack Russell- and thought I had managed to convince them to like me, only to watch them leave me at the kennels again. But a couple of days later the mum and dad came back, and this time they gave me a ride in their car, and I couldn’t believe it when I arrived at a house and found Jack Russell and his boy there, along with a girl and a strange little creature in a glass cage who has informed me that he is a lizard.
Of course, I thought I had best show some good behaviour, but it is hard to be good when you are not sure what good is, cos you have not been taught manners and your hungry and you don’t know for sure how long you are staying. I can’t help it if I get a bit excited now and then, and I jump about a bit and occasionally bark a bit more than I should. Jack Russell showed me a few things that I should do, but I think I may have misunderstood, or perhaps he did it on purpose, because some of the things he said don’t seem to suit my new mum and dad.

Still it is now April and I have lived here for 6 months and I think I must be staying, because they tell me I am a good boy. I have my own bed, my own toys and my own bowl. I eat well and regularly, I have fun on my walks, I get to chase sticks and my piece of rope, and I get to meet other dogs (who I have no problem with but Mum and Dad don’t entirely trust me). Sometimes I get to go with my friend Heidi, She is a honey coloured GSD and very cheeky and a bit bossy, but good fun. I am beginning to get my family trained up to my way of thinking they understand about getting up and walking me, and they have worked out it is important to wear wellies when it is wet so they can splash the puddles for me to play in. They know that sticks must be thrown regularly and that I can’t be expected to wait for my dinner for ever. They have also learnt that I have a sweet tooth and that chocolate should be locked away so I don’t get tempted – that Easter Egg was not my fault!!
All in all I am now a proper family pet and am no longer jealous of all the fortunate dogs, I have a master a mistress, 2 youngsters to cuddle and play with, a grumpy jealous rat for company, and a home of my own.
