Lottie dog

This is the story of one of the 3 GSDs who came from a pound in Yorkshire. Devon GSD Rescue liaised with Yorkshire Animal Ambulance to show compassion for an old dog too unwell to make the journey to us.

Suzanne took her in with the promise of help with the vets fees but never asked us for a penny. Yorkshire Animal Ambulance are always very helpful and kind with many charity dogs but this one touched their heart.  It is an example of how two animal welfare units can bring comfort to an old, neglected dog.

From YORKSHIRE ANIMAL AMBULANCE:

Lottie

In March 2010 one of our clients called regarding a very underweight stray – an adult female GSD.   The dog wardens and police were called but nobody could take her till Monday morning.  After liaising with Devon GSD rescue who have helped us previously and we have transported GSDs for them, they agreed to offer her a place.  Arrangements were made to transport her down to Devon, but it was agreed that she needed veterinary treatment for hip/ leg problems.  After a discussion with the vet and Devon GSD Rescue it was clear that she was not fit to transport on a very long journey due to pain so Suzanne agreed to foster her for a few days till the vet could get her more stable to transport.  It then became apparent after 24 hours that she was suffering from a Pyometra, a life threatening womb infection.  Due to her body condition it was felt she would not survive the GA and a decision was taken (as she was still unusually lively despite high temp) to give her an injection to improve her body condition before spaying.  Suzanne agreed to foster her longer term; Devon GSD would pay for her treatment and hopefully find her a home.  As we thought, she had had litter after litter.  She’s an old girlie approx 8-10 years  and with bad hips and legs no one has been interested in re-homing her.  Only Devon GSD were interested in helping!   Suzanne has now decided to let her stay with her and her own GSDs and live her days out happily.  Yorkshire Animal Ambulance would like to thank Devon GSD Rescue for their help and support and would ask that people help by making a donation in support of their good work.  Without their help this old girlie would have had to be PTS.  She is now called Lottie dog and her favourite game includes running round with the watering can in her mouth.

Please help us by re-homing your dog correctly if you no longer wish to keep your dog.  If you would like help re-homing your pet then please contact us so we can advise you of the correct procedure.

PLEASE DO NOT DUMP YOUR PETS!!
