Garden Party
A big ‘Thank You’ to Pat and Denys for having the party at their farm, it was really appreciated and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves in the beautiful countryside.  Pat had been busy cooking and everyone tucked in to the lovely tea provided – luckily the guests had worked up an appetite by partaking in a walk on the farm.  The weather was on our side this time by not raining until we were going home!

28th June 2009

Donkey Derby
After a long spell of dry weather Sunday the 28th started with a few drops of rain and, luckily, only a couple of light showers.  The two stalls were fairly busy and the ‘Tombola’ and ‘Hook the Ducks’ made £76.50 – thank you to all those who helped.   It was a good day with the Donkey Races, Dog Agility display, Dog Show and a demonstration by the National Champion on his mountain bike.  A good day was had by all the families who attended.

6th June 2009

GSD Club of Devon Open Show
At the start of the show the weather wasn’t too bad so the gazebo and stall were set up.  It was really cold and, before long, the weather got worse and worse.  Finally the gazebo started leaking so we had to call it a day and pack up early to save the goods; unfortunately the day was a ‘wash out’!!   We were all really glad to get home as we were soaked to the skin – hope the weather is kinder on future dates!

17th May 2009

Charity Walk at Finglebridge
Eighteen members with 12 dogs braved the heavy rain by turning up at Finglebridge at 2pm on Sunday.

As we gathered awaiting to set off at 2.30pm. the dogs summed each other up as only GSDs can while their owners sought shelter wherever they could. Then as the skies cleared everyone started off in fine and warm weather.

The walk was 2 miles each way either side of the river. The lucky ones were able to enjoy lovely views while a few, notably our Chairman, found themselves more intent upon preventing themselves being taken around either via the river or at a pace that would have impressed Paula Radcliffe. However without exception, the dogs behaved very well with one another and there were no problems when meeting other walkers with or without other dogs.

The return journey involved some tricky steep steps and narrow ledges. It also seemed more hilly but everyone returned safely and triumphantly to the pub where refreshments were eagerly sought. Because of the heavy rain the walk was quite muddy in parts and several dogs were given a swim to clean up. As usual those dogs chose to shake in their cars.

It was a successful day, particularly as some of those involved with re-homing dogs met again for the first time the dogs and their new keepers. It will take a while for the final sum to be assessed but at the time of this note about £400 is known to have been pledged.

Our thanks to all who took part and for their help in funding the rescue and re-homing of these fine dogs.

May 3rd 2009

There were plenty of stalls and attractions at the Rotary May Fayre.

The Rescue ran a Dog Show and a Parade of some of our Re-homed dogs. We also had three stalls. The weather was kind to us and there were plenty of people enjoying the day. Many thanks go to all the helpers, members and fosterers who made the effort to come and support the event. The stalls did well and there were seventy two dogs entered in the show, so thanks to the Judge and Steward for their hard work. The Parade of our Rescue Dogs was well attended, some bringing their owners from as far away as Cornwall and Somerset. The dogs all behaved well in the ring so well done, thank you for coming.

We hope you enjoyed the day.
